San Antonio's Parks & Recreation Department has unveiled the Stanley Spigel Trailhead, a $1.1 million project designed to enhance outdoor recreation and connectivity on the city's northwest side. This new addition provides residents with increased access to the French Creek Greenway and Nani Falcone Park while offering much-needed parking for visitors.
Situated on approximately nine acres of land generously donated by the Spigel family, the trailhead incorporates environmentally friendly features, including stone elements and a native plant bioswale to filter stormwater. It also boasts accessible, permeable parking stalls to minimize environmental impact.
Trail users will find a range of amenities similar to those throughout the Greenway Trail System, including a drinking fountain, signage, bike racks, a bicycle repair station, trash receptacles, a port-a-potty, landscaping, tree plantings, and irrigation. The project was funded through $854,000 in sales tax venue funds and $243,000 from tree mitigation efforts.

This latest expansion contributes to San Antonio's ever-growing network of more than 100 miles of hike and bike trails within the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System. These scenic pathways meander through the city's waterways, including Salado Creek, Leon Creek, Medina River, and Westside and Tributary Creeks, providing residents with outdoor spaces to explore from sunrise to sunset.
